Laying out wool fibres for feltmaking

Felt vegetable garden at St Mary's  School, Mildenhall

Felt making is a simple yet exciting activity for all ages and abilities. Working with dyed wool fibres and warm soapy water it's possible to make a piece of artwork in just over an hour.

As a school project the students can either make individual pieces that can be displayed together or work together on a large piece of felt artwork. This is a great activity for introducing textiles: the children can learn about the processing of wool from the sheep to a piece of fabric.

Heidi and Jacquie also work as felt artists. Take a look at their felt accessories on their Etsy site.
